When ever visiting the mountains it is always important to check the current weather updates. Weather and other variables can affect operations of the lifts. Below are answers to Frequently Asked Questions as well as other bits of information we hope will enhance your visit to Mt Baldy.

Warning:  Hypothermia Danger and Altitude Sickness Danger

Chairlift 1 transports passengers and elevation of 1300 vertical feet into alpine conditions where extreme cold can be dangerous especially for young and older guests.  Warm multi-layered, winter clothing, hats and boots are essential the safety of everyone being transported on the lift and participating in activities in an alpine environment.  Mt Baldy Ski Lifts Inc reserves the right to refuse service for safety concerns.

Beginning January 8, 2017, we will be updating our policies and guidelines for all passengers who wish to ride the lifts.  We will require all persons (excepting persons with disabilities) to be capable of getting on and off the lift under their own power.  This means parents or guardians will no longer be able to carry their children on the lifts. I have a medical condition.
Is it safe to visit the mountain?

Persons with known medical conditions such as but not limited to, seizures, psychiatric disorders, history of heart or vascular disease, strokes, asthma, or who difficulty breathing should check with their physician to better determine if a high altitude, remote wilderness experience presents unacceptable risks. Prescription medications, or the use of any intoxicating substance may also be a factor, so please check with your physician.  While we offer many amenities to help our guests enjoy a comfortable mountain experience, we are geographically located a substantial distance from advanced medical care, and rescue efforts may be complicated by rapidly changing weather, therefore guests in need of medical assistance may experience extended wait times during medical emergencies.  Changing weather may exacerbate medical conditions, so please check with your physician before you come.  Should a member of our staff be concerned for your safety, Mt Baldy Ski Lifts Inc reserves the right to refuse service to any of our services or activities.

Drones! 
Can I use my drone (UAS) at Mt Baldy Ski Lifts?

Based on safety concerns for guests, employees, and resort property, as well as concerns for individual privacy, Mt Baldy Ski Lifts Inc prohibits the operation or use of UAS (unmanned aerial systems commonly referred to as drones) by the general public – including recreational users, hobbyists, or for any commercial use. Drone use is permitted only upon obtaining written authorization from Management. This prohibition includes drones used for filming or videotaping, as well as any drone used by media or journalists operating above or within the Mt Baldy Ski Lifts Inc boundary. Violation of this policy may result in loss of lift privileges and/or prosecution under applicable law. Please contact a resort representative in Administration if you have any questions

Ticketing FAQ

The Mt Baldy Ski Lifts offers online advance purchases as well as on site. Online prices are typically less expensive than on site prices and are available online only. All tickets purchased in advance must be redeemed at a ticket window.

We do not offer refunds. Refunds are issued through the third party vendor based on their refund policy.

The value you paid for the voucher never expires in the State of California. We will honor the dollar amount you paid for the voucher and use it as credit towards tickets purchased at the window on the day of your visit.

We give discounts for Mt. Baldy Residents, our Military and Seniors 65 and over. We also offer a Free Ski Ticket or Scenic Chair Ride on your Birthday. All offers require proof by photo ID.

Yes we accept cash and credit but not checks.

We do not require reservations during regular operations. However, certain special events may require a reservation. Check our website home page for any current bulletins.

The Notch (Restaurant & Venue) FAQ

The notch has excellent food, in fact, our chef is well known in Las Vegas. At the Notch food is an art from- the menu is largely influenced by American cuisine but features regular specials drawing tastes from around the world. You won’t believe you can eat this well at 8000 feet. The notch also host many events including weddings and live music most evenings on the weekend during the summer.

Only service and seeing-eye dogs are allowed in buildings

Yes, Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. The mountain also supports a gift card system. Gift cards are often available online at big discounts.

The Notch serves beer, wine and specialty cocktails like Bloody Mary’s and Cape Cod’s at the scenic bar. We are well known for our selection of craft brews and our annual summer event “Battle of the Brews” featuring the best local flavors.

Yes, inquire at (909) 982-0800 or use our online customer support feed located on the homepage of our website. Check our events calendar for the most current info. We have events ranging for our well known Battle of the Brews beer sampling competition, to small music festivals and more. During the summer, we have a night event happening almost every weekend!

Drinking water comes from local springs and wells and is among the best and freshest tasting water in the world.

Yes, all burgers are available with vegetarian patties, and the notch features an assortment of wonderful fresh salads. The humus on the vegetable plate is made from scratch here by our chef, It is fantastic!

The average cost for a lunch or dinner at the Top of the Notch Restaurant is between $8 and $15.

Yes, we have a limited number of coin operated lockers in the Notch Restaurant. Cost $1.25. First come first served.

Chairlift FAQ

Mt Baldy Ski Lifts offers scenic rides up chairlift #1 seven days a week transporting guests from an elevation of 6,500 feet to 7,800 feet. The elevation change ALWAYS results in a substantial temperature and climactic difference.  Be prepared!  Always be ready for wind and rain.  Young children are particularly vulnerable cold temperatures.  Always be sure to check our homepage for the most current information on operating hours.

Persons interested in riding a chairlift at Mt Baldy Ski Lifts should be physically and mentally capable of sitting on the chairlift under their own volition for at least 25 min.  Persons with known medical conditions that might compromise the guests ability to safely stay on the chair (such as seizures, psychiatric disorders, history of heart or vascular disease or strokes) should consider another activity at the ski area.

Mt Baldy Ski Lifts recommends any child under age 14 ride with someone 14 years or older.  Actual loading and unloading decisions are made by the on duty lift operator.

No animals are not permitted on the chair lift. Dogs are however allowed within our permitted area. Dogs must be mild tempered and may not pose a threat to Mt Baldy Ski Lifts personnel or customers.

Yes as long as the Item is able to fold flat we can place the item in a chair lift.  Some heavier items may not be able to be safely transported using the lift.

Every transportation related purchase at Mt Baldy includes complimentary transportation of items that will fit into the seat next to the rider. We provide one box per paying customer (27 gallon storage container- approximately 29 x 19 x 15), to transport loose items upon request. We happily transport a backpacker’s backpack next to a rider. No ice-chests, and no packaged alcohol, no animals.

Mt Baldy Ski Lifts discourages any injured person from riding the ski lifts. Actual loading and unloading decisions are made by the on duty lift operator.

Customers riding chairs at Mt Baldy Ski Lifts must be able to fit in the chair which is 22 inches wide. Actual loading and unloading decisions are made by the on duty lift operator.

Heights from the ground vary from 20-60 feet, with normal average height of around 25-35 feet.

Mt Baldy Ski Lifts Inc does not regulate our guests clothing or shoes. Mountain weather can change erratically and dramatically. Temperatures and wind on the upper mountain can be significantly lower than temperatures and wind on the lower mountain. Always be prepared for wind and rain. Small children are at particular risk for hypothermia, always have extra layers. Closed toed shoes with sturdy, non-slip, vibram type soles are strongly recommended.

Some lifts at Mt Baldy, including our scenic ride lift #1, use restraining bars to enhance the guest experience. Restraining Bars are not designed to hold occupants in place; it should never be assumed that a restraining bar will keep an occupant in their seat

Zip Lines FAQ

Ready to fly? Make the birdies Jealous and come check us out! This ride is engineered to produce substantial g-forces, and it is the inherent nature of the ride to do just that; therefore we have restrictions for age and medical condition that may effect your ability to participate in this activity. We must reserve the right to refuse service should we have a concern for your well-being.

We are uncompromising and meticulous when it comes to the safety and maintenance of our ziplines, the integrity of our equipment, and the training of our guides. We are regularly evaluated and inspected my multiple independent agencies. We may refuse service to anyone should we be concerned for a guest’s safety.

We DO NOT allow zipping while pregnant. The essential characteristics of the ride design, produces forces that could endanger your pregnancy. Mt Baldy Ski Lifts Staff may refuse service to anyone should we be concerned for a guest’s safety

Participants must be able to: Understand and follow basic directions, or basic directions that are communicated by an assistant from at least 50 feet away, maintain a sitting posture and fit into a harness that safely secures around torso and upper legs. Wheelchair access requires the ability to travel by wheelchair, on a dirt road. Consult your physician for further recommendations. Mt Baldy Ski Lifts Staff may refuse service to anyone should we be concerned for a guest’s safety.

The ride is about 600ft long (about 2 football fields) and lasts about 15 seconds

  • You must be at least 8 years of age
  • You must be at least 48 inches and not more than 75 inches in height
  • You must properly fit into Zip Line safety equipment
  • You must weigh at least 50 lbs and not more than 250 lbs

Closed toed shoes are required. No loose or dangling clothing or hair

  • Persons with the following conditions may not use the Zip Line ride:
  • Heart conditions or breathing conditions, abnormal blood pressure, seizure disorders.
  • Persons with head, neck, or back conditions
  • Expectant mothers (pregnant)
  • Persons with recent surgery or other medical conditions.
  • If you have another medical condition such as diabetes, check with your doctor to better determine if Zip Lines are an appropriate activity.

Mt Baldy Ski Lifts offers many extraordinary activities that all come with a spectacular view. Try our new Zip Lines, or stay overnight in one of our furnished tent cabins- all meals included! Be ready for the mountain environment. On a winter day, it can be 60 degrees in Los Angeles and 25 degrees at Mt Baldy Ski Lifts. Summer thundershowers are always a possibility.

The closest gas station is the Valero Gas Station at Euclid & 24th Ave. Make a left onto Shin Road, when road splits toward Mountain Ave., stick to the left (Euclid Ave.) Gas Station will be on your right hand side.

Campfires are strictly forbidden within our permitted boundary, and are punishable under federal law.

Any food or drink you bring into the Mt Baldy Ski Lifts Permit area should be consumed immediately, and never stored in any container near a Tent Cabin or near any other personal campsite. No food storage containers (ice chests etc) are allowed on the chairlift. While rare, encounters with black bears do happen, and storage of food or food waste should be considered hazardous.

We are now offering Tent Bungalows for your camping adventure at Mt. Baldy.

No, there is no cell reception at Mt. Baldy Ski Lifts. You can get coverage in Mt. Baldy Village at the Fire Station for 911 calls only.

Yes, the cost to park in our parking lot is $5 and you must display parking ticket in your dash. A National Forest Adventure Pass will work in place of a Mt. Baldy Parking Ticket.

Our parking lot, ticketing office(s) and base of Chair #1 are at 6,500ft above sea level.

The Top Of The Notch, Ski School, Ski Patrol and the base of the Disc Golf Course are at 7,800ft above seas level. The highest point in the ski area is 8,600ft, and if you’re heading outside the ski area, Mt San Antonio is 10,064ft.

Our Winter season begins as soon as conditions permit. Snowfall and cold tempuratures for making snow are both factors in determining when we can open. Typically, we hope to be open for Thanksgiving weekend.

There is a short cut (AKA Manker Cutoff) to the Fire Road at the far end of the Parking lots top (highest) tier. It is an approximate 20% grade. Once you connect to the Fire Road the Top of the Notch is 2.5 miles up. Ask a Guest Services Rep to point out Manker Cutoff.

We do not allow personal sleds of any kind on the resort.

Yes, Mt Baldy Ski Lifts offers water from a small public water fountain at no charge. It comes from a local spring and is comparable to the best waters in the world. Â Bottled water is also available in the Notch.
